Opportunity Description
The “Gabriele d’Annunzio” University, founded in 1965 as a “Free University,” became a state-owned institution in 1982. It currently includes 13 Departments and 2 Schools. There are two university campuses: Chieti, which works as the University’s registered office and contains the Rectorate and General Management, and Pescara.
The “Gabriele d’Annunzio” University (UdA) of Chieti-Pescara is offering 19 scholarships to Afghani and Ukrainian students with international protection. In the academic year 2022/2023, candidates can apply in a free access Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
Important details and dates
The 19 scholarships will be given to:
- 3 Scholarships will be awarded to Afghan students.
- 16 Scholarships will be awarded to Ukranian students.
(This allocation may change based on the number of applications received and the selection criteria set out in this Call).

Benefits of the Scholarship
- Tuition expenses for the whole degree program will be paid.
- free housing at the ADSU Residence in Pescara beginning on the day of arrival or the day the scholarship is awarded.
- Two daily reduced-price lunches given by ADSU canteens in Pescara and Chieti.
- Help with registering for and accessing “MYPAGE UdA”.
- If necessary, Italian language courses will be provided.
- The Student Mobility Team will offer greeting services and social integration support upon arrival.
- Upon arrival, you will get specific psychological help and guidance. There are also materials available for students with difficulties or specific learning difficulties.
Who is eligible?
- Applicants should be an Afghan or Ukrainian nationality.
- Applicants should have a recognized educational qualification for admission to an UdA three-year Bachelor’s Degree program or a two-year Master’s Degree program.
- Candidate must have a valid international protection residency permit or a Refugee Identity Card (UNHCR Refugee Identity Card or Proof of Registration).
Or in accordance with current Italian immigration legislation, they must have (or have applied for) a residence permit for international protection as a result of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan or Ukraine.
- Candidates should not have pre-registered for an Italian institution using the University’s website.
- These scholarships are not available to students who want to transfer from other Italian colleges.
Required Documents
- A copy of their passport or other proof of identity document.
- A copy of a valid international protection residency permit or a Refugee Identity Card issued by the country in which the candidate is registered (Refugee Identity Card or Proof of Registration issued by UNHCR). When the application is submitted, the resident permit must be valid.
- Updated Curriculum Vitae or resume.
- A copy of the degree certificate or school leaving certificate, and/or transcript of records, or any other relevant document is necessary. The certificate must be issued by the institution that granted the title.
- A formal document attesting to the candidate’s ability to communicate in Italian. Those who do not have a language certificate or do not speak Italian should contact the following office: dirittostudio@unich.it.
- The form indicating the program they have chosen.
- Any additional document that may be beneficial in assessing and certifying the applicant’s training and education.
Applicants must present an Italian translation of papers written in languages other than Italian, as well as a Dichiarazione di Valore in loco (certificate of academic equivalency) or the certificate given by CIMEA for holders of international protection status.
Only applicants who are unable to submit the Italian translations of the application materials may send their English translation to servizio.dirittostudio@unich.it.
Selection Criteria
- The “G. D’Annunzio” University’s Department for the Right to Education and Disability evaluates the admission requirements.
- A basic examination of applicants’ qualifications will be taken, followed by an interview.
- When the review procedure is completed. A maximum of 100 points is awarded to candidates. A maximum of 60 points for the applicant’s qualifications and a maximum of 40 points for the interview may be awarded to each application by the Committee.
- Applicants that receive a preliminary rating of 1 to 40 will be invited to an interview.
- Interviews will be held over the internet. Applicants who are accepted into the interview process will be informed ahead of time of the day, time, and platform on which the interviews will take place.
- Those who do not have an official language certification may be tested during the interview to prove their Italian language abilities, as well as any other languages they mentioned in their application.
- The results of the selection process will be emailed to all candidates.
